A potential roadmap for a Harris victory

“We’re a 50/50 country, each side gets 40 going in, you fight for the rest wrote Peggy Noonan, (“The Kamala Harris Surprise,” The Wall Street Journal, Opinion, July 27). Another surprise occurred a few days prior to Noonan’s op-ed. It came in the form of other Journal op-eds that are an unwitting gift to Harris campaign strategists.

When skillfully parsed, the following opinion writers not only provide the components of a winning political platform that could appeal to independent and swing voters, but would also take the wind out of the MAGA campaign sails:

Beginning July 25, Robert B. Zoellick’s list of seven opportunities to be pursued by Harris was complemented with tax strategy by Mike Pence and Pat Toomey. On July 26, Kimberley Strassel suggested a Harris tack to the center while David J. Urban and Mike Pompeo outlined a peace plan for Ukraine and Mickey D. Levy contributed financial advice. Barton Swain summed things up on July 27. When speaking of Donald Trump, he wrote: “To stop his rise, all the Democrats would have to do is moderate. Or exercise a bit of common sense.”

Harris can find a road to political victory in November by hewing moderate positions on issues — away from those of extremists in the Democratic Party that would surely bomb with independent and swing voters. The tactical do’s and don’ts opined by the Journal writers are certainly worthy of close scrutiny by the Harris campaign advisers.
