Keep pressure on to end driver tests
I am responding to the July 29 front page article on speeding. It stated that in Illinois 55% of vehicle deaths in 2023 were speed related. And who were cited as the biggest offenders? They are the young (18-44) and males (15-24). "Speeding is the number one factor in all accidents involving injuries and deaths" as quoted from the Daily Herald.
Why are senior citizens forced to take road tests, when every study, all statistics verify that we aren't the unsafe drivers? We have never been given names of the legislators who voted against repealing this law. All we read was, "It was probably some high-ranking Democrat." We deserve names of who are targeting the seniors in such an unjust way.
I will continue writing to lawmakers and the secretary of state. Every article, every study, every statistic reveals that the younger drivers are the abusers of speeding, distracted driving, and DUIs. We need to continue pressuring our representatives to repeal this law against senior citizens. Democracy is suppose to be equal ruling for all. We are not being treated equally. It is time for Illinois to step up and realize they are refusing to look at the facts.
We have been told that this law should have had no problem being repealed. Yet some powerful Democrat has put up a roadblock. This sounds like a bully who is taking advantage of what he feels is a weaker group of people. Ageism is intolerable and no one should endorse it. How many more studies, how many more facts from traffic investigations do our representatives need to finally reach a conclusion that 49 other states have already made?
Common sense. Why not reduce the speed limits and have them enforced? Why do car manufacturers have our speedometers go to 140? Ridiculous.
