Man convicted of selling guns without serial numbers to undercover officer

A Hanover Park man has been found guilty of selling guns without serial numbers and a machine gun conversion device to an undercover officer.

Jeffrey Levander, 44, was found guilty Wednesday of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful sale or delivery of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm without a firearm owners identification card and unlawful sale or delivery of an unserialized firearm. He was acquitted of a charge of gunrunning.

DuPage County Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh heard the case, which was prosecuted by the state attorney general’s office.

Levander is due to be sentenced Sept. 24.

He was charged in December. Prosecutors alleged he agreed to sell two unserialized Glock clone handguns for $3,600 — and a machine gun conversion device and a spring-loaded knife for $500 — to the undercover investigator. It happened in three separate sales in DuPage and suburban Cook counties, according to a news release from the attorney general.

Conversion devices enable guns to fire fully automatically.
