Woman charged with bogus story of attempted robbery at LaFox post office
An Aurora woman has been charged with lying to police about an attempted robbery that didn't happen in May at a La Fox Post Office.
Zelpha K. Moore, 47, of the 2200 block of Sans Souci Drive, is charged with felony disorderly conduct and obstructing justice, according to Kane County court records and prosecutors.
Moore, a postal worker, is charged with making a false police report about an attempted armed robbery at the post office at 1N279 La Fox Road.
At the time, the Kane County sheriff's office said deputies responded shortly after 10 a.m. May 2 for a report of an attempted robbery. They were told a 5-foot, 9-inch, 220-pound man, whose ethnicity was unknown, entered the post office wearing a ski mask and gloves, pulled out a handgun and demanded money.
Moore said she tackled the suspect before he got any money, and he ran from the building, authorities said. Deputies and police dogs searched the area but did not find the man; the employee was not injured.
Authorities investigated Moore's story and, on Friday, issued a warrant. Deputies arrested Moore Monday, and she was released on her own recognizance in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Moore is next due in court on Nov. 7. If convicted, she faces one to three years in prison, but probation also is an option.
