Bulls, Buzelis finish summer league with loss to Lakers
The Bulls wrapped up summer league play with a 107-81 loss to the Lakers in Las Vegas on Saturday.
But it's not really about wins and losses during the summer, but how the draft picks play the game. Matas Buzelis, the Willowbrook native chosen by the Bulls with the No. 11 pick, showed plenty of interesting potential.
The 6-9 forward attacked the basket, handled the ball and showed off impressive athleticism. Overall, Buzelis averaged 16.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks, while shooting 33.7% from the field.
A couple of other notable Bulls were two-way center Adama Sanogo, who averaged 15 points, 8.8 rebounds and shot 62% from the field. Second-year forward Julian Phillips averaged 13.8 points, Neither Phillips nor Sanogo played against the Lakers.
The Bulls' leading scorer in Las Vegas was 6-2 guard D.J. Steward at 17.4 ppg. He's a Chicago native who played in high school at Whitney Young, spent one year at Duke, then the past three seasons in the G-League.
Pitt rookie Blake Hinson led the Lakers with 25 points, while Bronny James did not play.
