Libertyville police investigate reports of vehicle break-ins, stolen cars
Libertyville police are investigating multiple reports of people entering vehicles and rummaging through them this week.
Police responded to several locations about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday. At one, about 10 Black men ran to waiting vehicles and left, police said.
Officers also were called to the 1100 block of Sussex Lane about a 2018 Subaru that had been stolen after being left unlocked with a key inside, police said.
The Subaru was equipped with a GPS tracker and later was found abandoned on I-94 near the Lake Forest Oasis, police said. An empty Dodge Durango found near Subaru had been reported stolen from a town in DuPage County, according to police.
At 6:30 a.m., Libertyville police were called to the 1100 block of Garfield Avenue regarding a 2023 Subaru had been stolen after, again, being left unlocked with a key inside. The 2023 Subaru was later found abandoned in Maywood, police said.
Libertyville police said the criminal activities occurred on the 1000 block of Dawes Street; 1100 block of Tamarack, Tracy and Sussex lanes and Garfield Avenue; the 1200 block of Trinity Place and Abbey Court.
Police are reminding everyone to lock vehicles, remove valuables and the keys/fobs, and lock their garage and home doors. Anyone with information or video surveillance should call Libertyville police at (847) 362-8310.
