Sheriffs deputies credited with saving Gurnee-area man
Lake County sheriff’s deputies are being credited with saving the life of a man who attempted to harm himself Wednesday night, officials said.
Deputies were called to a home in an unincorporated area near Gurnee about 10:30 p.m. by the wife of a man who was in distress and threatening to hurt himself, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The wife called 911 after the man went into a detached garage and locked the door. The first deputy to arrive forced entry to a locked side door of the garage and intervened in the man’s attempt at self-harm, officials said.
The man was treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital where he was breathing and had a pulse, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office advises anyone needing services or to speak with someone can call or text 988 or call the Lake County crisis care line, (847) 377-8088, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
