3 suburban tornadoes Sunday, more Monday night
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service bureau in Romeoville have confirmed three EF-0 tornadoes, the least damaging types, touched down in the suburbs Sunday evening.
More were spotted Monday night near Sugar Grove, Warrenville and Oswego. No damage reports were immediately available.
Wind gusts in excess of 80 mph were reported in some northern suburbs Monday night as well.
As for Sunday’s tornadoes, one was located near Elburn and two more in southern Cook County, officials at the weather service reported.
Those twisters were reported just before 10 p.m., shortly after tornado warnings were issued at about 9:35 p.m.
Several roads in rural Kane County were closed Monday morning because of downed trees and electrical wires, including Meredith Road in Virgil and Pouley Road near Elburn.
ComEd was reporting outages in the area affecting more than 9,000 customers late Monday.
Meanwhile, more severe weather is predicted Tuesday as well.
Forecasters warned Monday’s storms could produce significant hail, destructive winds and possibly more tornadoes.
After several days temperatures in excess of 90 degrees and heat indexes climbing into the 100s, Tuesday’s temperatures are only expected to get into the upper 80s. But high humidity is expected again during the day as more storms creep into the southern part of the suburbs.
The rest of the week, temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s are expected with no more rain in the forecast through Thursday.
