Award-winning New Philharmonic announces 2024-2025 season at the MAC
The New Philharmonic, the DuPage County orchestra that has called the McAninch Arts Center its home for 40 years, announced its 2024-2025 season, the 20th under conductor/music director Kirk Muspratt.
It begins in October with a program that includes Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, featuring guest pianist Winston Choi, and Gustave Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major (Oct. 5-6).
That’s followed by “John Williams’ Music Makes the Movie” (Nov. 1-3), which was expanded in response to the popularity of last year’s concerts featuring works by the prolific composer known for his scores to such films as “Jaws,” “Star Wars,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Schindler’s List.”
During December, New Philharmonic performs Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” score live to the Salt Creek Ballet’s production (Dec. 14-15), which is followed by a New Year’s Eve performance showcasing bass-baritone Richard Ollarsaba.
The orchestra begins 2025 with a concert performance of Gaetano Donizetti’s opera “Elixir of Love” (Jan. 25-26, 2025). The season concludes with “Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto” featuring violinist Yang Liu and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 (April 12-13).
“At New Philharmonic we pride ourselves in our splendid performances of the best-loved classical music, but also enjoy performing orchestral music’s hidden gems to give audiences one of the most exciting symphonic experiences they can find anywhere,” Muspratt said in a prepared statement.
Performances take place at the MAC at the College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
