Students complete Leadership Greater McHenry County's 2020 Summer Internship Program
Leadership Greater McHenry County is pleased to announce six interns successfully completed internships July 24 as part of the organization's third annual Summer Nonprofit Leadership Intern Program.
Participants were selected through a competitive interview process earlier this year.
Applicants for the program included college students with a variety of majors ranging from criminology to premed to business.
The program is focused on building nonprofit leadership acumen - the awareness of the community, understand the value of working in a nonprofit and see if it sparks an interest.
With a few changes due to COVID-19 restrictions, the interns were able to spend, either in person or virtually, 3½ days a week working with their McHenry County nonprofit host organization leaders, visiting other local nonprofits to learn about their missions, and participating in professional development Fridays during this eight-week program.
All six interns are graduates of McHenry County high schools and attend colleges throughout the U.S. They include: Lexi Gray (Crystal Lake Central), University of Wisconsin Oshkosh; Emma Kubelka (Huntley), Xavier University; Maddie Naughton (Crystal Lake Central), St. Louis University; Emily Osmanski (Crystal Lake South), Western Kentucky University; Ellie Thurow (Woodstock North), Coe College; and Julia Tompkins (Marian Central), Boston College.
The interns were matched with their host organizations based on interests, skills, and the host's specific needs.
Host organizations for 2020 included: Family Health Partnership Clinic; Home of the Sparrow; Independence Health & Therapy; New Directions; and Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association.
Leadership Greater McHenry County's mission is to foster and develop community leaders through focused, experiential programs.
