Tekampe, Stephens lead Lakes' upset of Grant

Rosie Tekampe and Addie Stephens each scored 14 points, and Lakes' girls basketball team upset visiting Grant 51-41 in a Northern Lake County Conference matinee on Saturday.

Tekampe also had 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 blocks and 3 assists. Kendall Phelan and Grace Sullivan (4 rebounds) added 8 points apiece for the Eagles (5-20, 4-9), who had lost five in a row.

"We kept the game plan simple and everyone contributed," Lake coach Brian Phelan said. "We did a great job on closing out on shooting and were connected well on defense."

Stephens, a junior guard, notcher her season-high point total.

"So happy for Addie," Phelan said. "She had a great second half and could not miss.

"A good conference win," the coach added. "Just a good team win vs. a well-coached team."

Grant, which had won three straight, fell to 15-13 and 8-5 in the NLCC.

Grayslake North 45, North Chicago 41 (OT): Peyton Gerdes scored 14 points, and the host Knights prevailed in overtime to snap a nine-game losing streak in the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Ella did a nice job of keeping her head up and hitting her teammates when they were open. Both Kylie and 'Mack' [Arden] ran the floor well and finished strong. Jessie and Morgan provided a good inside presence and dominated the boards. It was senior night and it is always nice to be able to get everyone some playing minutes."
