Northwest Symphony winter concert Sunday at Forest View
The award-winning Northwest Symphony Orchestra will present its winter concert "Reveries" 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, featuring violinist Maria Storm performing the rarely-heard "Winter Song" by Belgium composer Eugene Ysaye.
Storm is the perfect dream weaver to inspire a journey of winter meditations as her playing floats, sings, and soars, taking you on a journey of beauty and imagination.
The orchestra also will premiere a work of joyful musings, "Memories of a Birch Tree," by Ivan Bozicevic. The work, selected through the orchestra's International Call for Scores, captures the birch tree's memories as it experience the turning seasons and growth.
"Winter Reveries" (Symphony No. 1) of Tchaikovsky closes out the concert, painting a youthful journey through winter daydreams, visiting a land of gloom and mist, and concluding majestically.
In partnership with the Northwest Suburban High School District 214 Community Education program, the concerts are held at Forest View Community Education Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. Commentaries led by Kim Diehnelt, music director and conductor, begin 45 minutes prior to the concert.
Orchestra members come from a wide spectrum of interests and backgrounds, including financial analysts, real estate agents, engineers, physicians, music performers and educators, students and retirees. The orchestra, founded in 1951, numbers 70 instrumentalists, ranging from students to music professionals, who meet weekly.
Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and $10 for students. Children under age 14 are free when accompanied by a paying adult. For further information, call (847) 965-7271, or go to www.northwestsymphony.org.
