Nearly 3 kilos of methamphetamine found at a Gurnee home

4 firearms and 3 grams of cocaine also found

Nearly 3 kilos of methamphetamine were among the drugs and firearms recovered earlier this week after a search warrant was served at a Gurnee home.

Zion police on Tuesday asked the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System’s Emergency Service Team to serve a search warrant to a home on the 4300 block of Birch Drive in Gurnee.

The target of the warrant was an individual suspected of selling methamphetamine in Zion and Lake County, police said.

The team secured the home, after taking precautions against possible exposure to hazardous materials, police said.

According to police, large quantities of methamphetamine were in the basement but there was no evidence to suggest the drugs were being chemically produced at the location. Nonetheless, as specialized hazardous materials team collected the drugs and decontaminated the basement, police said.

Two long guns and two handguns, 3 grams of cocaine and nearly 3 kilos (a kilo is 2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine in pill and crystalline form were recovered, police said.

Three adults were taken into custody pending felony charges but their identities were not immediately disclosed.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Special Investigation Group and Gurnee police supported the bust.
