Families to receive school supplies, free immunizations at Villa Park YMCA

A one-stop resource fair at the YMCA in Villa Park on Saturday, Aug. 3, will help families prepare for the back-to-school season.

The fair will offer school immunizations on-site, along with kid-friendly entertainment and assistance with school registration in Villa Park Elementary District 45. Organizers also will distribute free school supplies and backpacks for families. In addition, community groups will set up interactive booths during the fair from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Tri-Town YMCA at 136 S. Cornell Ave.

The event is coordinated by the Villa Park Area Early Childhood Collaborative. Retired teachers and other residents of The Roosevelt at Salt Creek Senior Living Community in Elmhurst stuffed backpacks with school supplies as part of an outreach program called “The Roosevelt Gives Back.”

For their first project, residents, together with The Roosevelt, raised over $1,100 in donations to buy school supplies for District 45 students and their families.

Hundreds of families are expected to attend Saturday’s fair.
