Algonquin Garden Club learns about The Land Conservancy
The Algonquin Garden Club hosted Sarah Michehl from The Land Conservancy of McHenry County during their annual brunch in May.
Michehl instructed the club on what native plants to include in their gardens to preserve and conserve our most valuable and threatened heritage - the McHenry County landscape.
Since 1991, The Land Conservancy has helped protect nearly 2,200 acres of McHenry County's prairies, wetlands and woodlands by working with private landowners, communities and other partners. They do this by accepting donated conservation easements and direct acquisition of property (through purchase or donation).
McHenry County's landscape ranges from glacial remnants such as kames, moraines, and outwash plains, to the more recent woodlands, prairies, stream corridors, bogs and fens. For more information on nonprofit organization, visit www.ConserveMC.org.
The club meets once a month at a member's home. For more information about the Algonquin Garden Club, visit algonquingardenclub.org or the garden club's Facebook page.
