Do you want to find out more about your direct ancestors, but the records you need seem to be missing? Have you hit a brick wall? Learn why FAN research (researching family, friends, associates and neighbors) can help you further your research. Whether or not you are interested in collateral (nondirect) relatives, FAN research is a tool that can be helpful to all genealogists. It may also be referred to as cluster, or collateral research.
