Amazon Fresh grocery store opening ‘very, very soon’ in Arlington Heights
At long last — after many starts and stops — the planned Amazon Fresh grocery store in Arlington Heights is set to open “very, very soon,” a company official said Monday. Village officials said they’ve been told that could mean as soon as the end of the month.
Jelly Belly closing North Chicago plant, laying off 66 workers
Jelly Belly Candy Co. will close its plant in North Chicago about Oct. 11 and lay off 66 employees, according to its Chicago-based parent company Ferrara Candy. The plant closure comes after Ferrara, which says it’s the largest sugar candy company in the U.S., bought the family-owned Jelly Belly for an undisclosed sum in November.
Opened during Prohibition, Kane County bar celebrates 100th anniversary
The year was 1924, during the Prohibition era in the United States. Even though consuming alcoholic beverages was illegal, it didn’t stop Flora and Albert Mott from opening a bar in western Kane County. Now known as Mott’s Lounge, that bar celebrates its 100th anniversary this summer in Burlington.
Scooter’s Coffee coming to Wheeling
A Scooters Coffee franchise is set to occupy a spot on Wheeling’s Restaurant Row that once housed a different purveyor of caffeinated drinks and sugary pastries. The new shop is planned for 310 N. Milwaukee Ave. That’s a brown, 800-square-foot building at the northwest corner of Milwaukee and East Strong Street.
Bell Works in Hoffman Estates adds three more tenants, including largest to date
Three new tenants are coming to Bell Works Chicagoland in Hoffman Estates, including its largest to date. This brings the initial eastern phase of the redevelopment of the former AT&T headquarters to 80% occupancy. The three new tenants add another 100,000 square feet of occupied office and warehouse space to the property’s potential 1.2 million-square-foot build-out.
Cary Apothecary sells local, nontoxic products inspired by owner’s Lyme disease journey
When Cary resident Tami Moore-Kedzie was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, she was bedridden for about a year and came up with an idea to open her own apothecary business. Cary Apothecary, at 395 Cary Algonquin Road, opened last week. The shop sells locally sourced gifts and items such as soy wax candles from Crystal Lake and honey from Woodstock.
After much debate, Gas N Wash plan clears hurdle in Wheeling
A plan to build a Gas N Wash station on Wheeling’s west side got preliminary approval from a divided village board Monday. A convenience store offering video gambling, a liquor store, a car wash and at least one fast-food restaurant also are planned for the site, which is on the northeast corner of Hintz and Old Buffalo Grove roads.
