North Aurora firefighters battle two residential fires Monday evening

North Aurora firefighters battled two residential fires Monday evening that left one home uninhabitable.

No injuries were reported in either fire.

The first call was just before 7 p.m. at a one-story, single-family house on the 900 block of Bennett Drive.

Firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire in about five minutes, but enough damage had been done to render the home uninhabitable.

Damage from the fire was estimated at about $20,000.

The second blaze was called in just after 9:30 p.m. at a two-story, single-family house on the 2000 block of Bartram Road.

The fire was contained largely to an attached garage and took about 10 minutes to extinguish, fire officials said.

Damage was estimated at about $20,000, but residents were allowed to return to the home.

Fire officials said both home were equipped with working smoke detectors.
