'I looked out the window and saw taillights right by my front door.' Truck crashes into Holiday Hills garage
Rick Stojak awoke to the sound of a loud boom around 4 a.m. Sunday and an unexpected sight outside his Holiday Hills home.
"I was actually sleeping on the couch in the living room. My dogs were scared. I didn't know what was happening at that point," said Stojak, 35, who found a Dodge pickup truck had crashed into the side of his garage. "I looked out the window and saw taillights right by my front door."
The vehicle was traveling north on Vaupell Road south of River Road when it crossed the southbound lane and exited the road to the west striking a small tree and then the house, according to the McHenry County sheriff's office.
The 17-year-old female driver was charged as a juvenile with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, violation of a graduated driver's license, and driving under the influence, authorities said.
Though no one was injured, Stojak said his 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe was destroyed and another 1986 Camaro he was storing in the garage was damaged.
