Pair charged in armed robbery of Lake County convenience store
Authorities have charged two men with the armed robbery last month of a Lake County convenience store.
Bryan Campos, 26, of the 2100 block of Hawthorne Lane in Waukegan, is charged with armed robbery stemming from the April 20 holdup of the business on the 37700 block of North Green Bay Road in Beach Park, authorities said.
According to the Lake County sheriff’s office, Campos is accused of carrying a gun into the store about 11:35 a.m. April 20 and demanding money from the clerk, then leaving after receiving cash. The clerk was not injured, officials said.
The sheriff’s office said detectives gathered enough evidence to obtain a search warrant for Campos’ residence. During the search, detectives found a hat, jacket, pants, and face covering worn by the robber during the holdup, authorities say.
Campos was arrested Sunday and appeared in court Tuesday, when he was ordered held in custody while his case is pending. He’s scheduled to return to court June 4.
Sheriff’s deputies also arrested Caden Hernandez, 21, of the 2100 block of Hawthorne Lane in Waukegan, who they say served as Campos’ getaway driver. He’s charged with aiding a fugitive and is scheduled to appear in court today.
