A former political activist; a young Filipino immigrant with a dream; an aspiring auto mechanic. As different as night and day, their common bond was their jobs. And now, it's their deaths.

Michael Castro, 16, Palatine: He loved automobiles, and had a gift for fixing things.

Dick Ehlenfeldt, 50, Arlington Hts.: Considerate of his employees; a former aide to Wisconsin governor.

Lynn Ehlenfeldt; 49, Arlington Hts.: Excited about her success, she also delighted in her close-knit family.

Guadeloupe Maldonado, 47, Palatine: Moved from Mexico with his wife and 3 sons a month ago.

Thomas Mennes, 32, Palatine: Quiet, unassuming; he had a twin brother living in Palatine.

Marcus Nellsen, 31, Palatine: Had begun working at the restaurant only a few weeks ago.

Rico Soils, 17, Arlington Hts.: Hard-working Filipino immigrant, he wanted to join the U.S. Army.
